Everything you need to know about traveling to China with us —visas, payments, food, safety, and more.
VISA & ENTRY
Visa & Entry
Do I need a visa to visit China?
It depends on your nationality. Citizens of 50+ countries qualify for 15-day visa-free entry. We provide a full eligibility check for every traveller and handle full tourist/business visa applications for those who need them.
How does the 144-hour visa-free transit work?
If you have a confirmed onward ticket to a third country within 144 hours (6 days), you can enter visa-free through designated ports in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangdong, and other regions. We can help you plan an itinerary that qualifies.
Can I extend my stay?
Visa-free stays cannot be extended. If you have a tourist visa (L visa), extensions are possible but must be arranged at local Entry-Exit Administration offices. We recommend planning your full trip duration before arrival.
PAYMENTS & LOGISTICS
Payments & Logistics
Can I use my phone and credit card in China?
China is largely cashless —WeChat Pay and Alipay dominate. We help you set up both before arrival. International credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted at major hotels and malls, but not at most local restaurants and markets. We provide a full payment guide and SIM card arrangement.
How do I get a Chinese SIM card?
We can arrange a China Unicom or China Mobile SIM card for pickup at the airport or your hotel on arrival day. Most airports also sell SIM cards at arrivals halls. Your guide can help activate it.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept international bank transfer (SWIFT), Alipay, and WeChat Pay. A 30% deposit secures your dates, with the balance due 14 days before departure.
TOURS & GUIDES
Tours & Guides
Are your tours private or group tours?
All ChinaTravelPlus tours are 100% private. Your group, your pace, your interests. We never mix travellers from different bookings. Even solo travellers receive a private guide and vehicle.
What languages do your guides speak?
All guides are fluent English speakers with professional interpretation training. Many also speak Cantonese, Mandarin dialects, or other languages on request. We match guides to your language preference.
How far in advance should I book?
4— weeks ahead for peak seasons (Chinese New Year, Golden Week, summer holidays). 2— weeks for standard travel. We can often accommodate shorter notice —contact us and we will tell you what is achievable.
What if I need help during my trip?
Your guide is with you throughout the journey. You also have access to our operations team via WeChat 24/7. We've handled everything from medical emergencies to last-minute itinerary changes —you're never alone.
FOOD & SAFETY
Food & Safety
Can you handle special dietary requirements?
Yes. We have organized tours for vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, and allergy-specific travellers. We brief every restaurant in advance. Your guide carries a dietary card in Mandarin for markets and smaller eateries.
Is China safe for foreign travellers?
China is generally very safe. Violent crime against foreigners is extremely rare. Petty theft is less common than in many Western cities. Our private guides accompany you throughout, and we provide 24/7 emergency contact.
